Drill sharpener attachment for a bench grinder, missing the post for mounting, that fits in the large hole with the rib next to it.

I used to have one, I never quite got the hang of getting both drill flutes identical.

Not one I've seen before. Useless to you unless someone else has an identical one and can tell you what the sideways offset is relative to the pivot post centre-line and whether the post is vertical (Picador) or sloped (General and most imports).

Which also assumes that the maker got the geometry right. Many of the imports don't manage this. A common error is to use Picador (vertical post) offsets on General (sloped post) versions which doesn't work properly although determined and persistent users can beat it into submission. But some imports are just plain wrong.

If you do get it going its best to take the drill out and re-seat it after every adjustment. Simply pushing it forward and re-clamping to do one side then taking it out and flipping to do the other frequently doesn't produce equal lips. As old mart notes. Presumably some subtle differences to the actual drill alignment due to the different methods. Taking it out and putting it back for both lips means you are using the same method each time which ought to give same results.

Bought one of these on a whim, but didn't like the idea of using the side of the grinding wheel. It worked reasonably OK, but a bit of a faff to set up. The accuracy didn't work well for small drill bits, which is probably what most of us struggle to grind anywhere near correctly.

                          Hello Larry,

The Picador version is far from useless, it is usually operator error that gives them a bad reputation. Clive's analysis is (as usual) spot on.

                          Andrew,

P.S. My Picador works very well on larger drills, after much head scratching, There are better methods for smaller drills..

                            Hi,

If you make a wedge to correct the angle of the base on the import versions and make the clamp suggested by Harold Hall to set the rotation of the drill accurately they work very well. See Harold Hall's article

                            Andrew.
