Odd Stuff from the Web

In Parallel with the thread Vanishing local shop outlets I thought it would be interesting to hear about some of the more obscure items or material sourced from the web. Workshop related of course. I recently bought 50mm of 1.5 mm diameter silver wire and a roll of transformer winding tape.

Got these this morning. Two job lots I'm well pleased with.

 

 

Shed load of key steel and I do use a lot.

Plus.

 

 

Big pile of assorted slip stones, don't use these a lot but the rubber impregnated blocks at the back look interesting.

 

Be able to hurl these at next doors cat and not get done for cruelty

No the rubber blocks, that way if they bounce off they only get a corundum scrape

John, I have one of those rubber blocks (a memento from BAe in the 80's) They were used by the Spinner to polish up work pieces. I used mine to clean my N gauge track. I've also inherited one of those stones with a slight taper. Any idea what they are for? why the taper from edge to edge?

Three or four years ago I set about designing a guitar tremelo unit that would not require routing the guitar body. To secure it I would have needed some Allen head wood screws. The only place I could find at the time was this place. They seem to be available from several suppliers nowadays.

Taper edge stone- I've only used them for sharpening gouges. But will probably be for something else.

I'v got some of those tapered oil stones with the radiused edge, used them on gouges back in the days when I was wood turning. Used one the other day to freshen up the cutting edge of a 1/4" BSW tap. I usually use a little stone in the Dremmel.

Bought a bit of stuff recently on the web via 'that' site.

With me just starting out it's been an expensive year. There seems to be always something that you need when a newbie. – I dare not even think about adding it up.

But sometimes a bargain catches my eye. But a bargain is only a bargain if you actually need it.

Anyway. Bought these items in the last 10 days ish.

The 80mm chuck is not exactly 'old' – It's a brand new one but 'old' surplus that someone was shifting for a price that I would not have forgiven myself for if I had said no to.
