I know it's another learning curve but Onshape is ideal for simple solids like that and is really easy to learn. When extruding you are given the choice between solid and surface and there is an option to apply a draft angle.

Where it falls down is on speed for complex models like this Antikythera Mechanism . I used that as a test for exporting complex models from Solidworks to Onshape. It all works but is so slow as to be unusable, not surprisingly, when viewing the entire mechanism.  Individual parts and sub-assemblies seem to be OK.

For me the big advantage is that it works on all platforms, not just Windows.

Neil, probably not much help other than interesting from a workflow perspective, I managed that solid (I think it is the same as yours bar the dimensions) in 4 moves – check the part tree on the left…

Looks like the bed "casting" of an engine. Got a new project starting?

I did get there in the end, any guesses what this is?

If you are going to 3D print the part you would be better off with it the other way up – far less support material required.

Jason, that is an interesting workflow. It is almost the same as mine with some extra stuff added in – I assume, dictated by the software. If I can work out how to make video clips I will re-do the model in SWorks for comparison. I notice you did not add dimensions, I did not add them either as I did not know them and it would have added little to the picture I posted. Would the model be parametric if you had added dimensions?

Mark, did you mean me or Martin?

Yes, I really should wear my glasses ALL the time on the PC…

I did in fact mean Martin, sorry guys!

Apart from AutoCAD for 2D I have no knowledge of any other 3D packages. I use Solidworks, which makes very short work of this solid. Happy to help with requests.
