Hi,

Just joined the Forum that I found whilst searching for Forums to join for home machining.

I don't make models and see on here it's not just for model makers, but who know's maybe I'll end up making one

Anyway, I am a Primary School Teacher and have managed to build and equip, a MakerSpace in our school. MakerSpaces are designed as a place to get children inspired to make things, both mechanical and digital (virtual and physical or both).

We purchased a Warco Hobby Lathe and a Warco Hobby Bench Drill and I will be looking for help and advice on using these as well as ideas on what we can make. Last time I used a lathe was about 40 years ago!!

I have been watching some great videos on YouTube "Ade's Workshop" who has been using the same Lathe (the reason we bought this one) and "BlondiHacks" which has some great beginner tutorials.

So, I'll be nipping in and out.

Welcome William. There is a small group of Model Engineers in Barnstaple and the Exeter Model Engineers can be found on Facebook. The term 'Model Engineering' covers a lot of amaterur hobby constructing not just making modles just like in the USA the term commonly used is 'home shop machinist'.

Hi William & welcome from another Home shop machinist of sorts. It can get expensive. Ade's workshop is one of my favs He makes me laugh. Great guy. Of course Quinn at Blondihacks is always worth a watch too. If you want to get technical you may want to have a look in on , Joe Pieczynski. Good luck with your forthcoming projects.

Hi William welcome to the forum. Just ask if you want any information, on here there are a diverse group of people with loads of skills and someone will have done similar sometime.

I help the granddaughters school from time to time making test pieces of materials and samples and once made few test pieces to use on resistors and lamps.

Before the pandemic she made a replica silver Viking bangle for history project, sawing stamping filing and bending.

Welcome aboard shipmate, there is a vast fund of knowledge to be found here on almost any subject. Just ask ! what age group do you teach ? Had you considered hydraulics as a project area ? very relavent in the modern world. PM me if you want some ideas. Noel.
