I am sure there are owners here who have fitted this conversion to an under drive lathe,
I am thinking of adding this modification to my lathe or simlar so please recommend other options. My question is when fitting the conversion do you fit the motor in the original position and use the same pulley drive system, or do you rip it all out and modify to have a more direct drive.

          Hi there.
The standard motor supplied with the Newton Tesla CL750 lathe speed control systems is a direct fitting replacement for most Boxford underdrive machines (same shaft diameter of 5/8″, same centre height and same foot fixing centres). All except the Boxford VSL machines which had the same frame size of motor –  but fitted with an electro-mechanical brake on the non-drive end.

You can keep the existing pulley system.

On our elderly Myford ML7 lathe – we tend to leave the belt arrangement in a mid-speed range and then let the speed control do the rest.
          Hope this helps.

            Hi,

I have recently fitted the CL750 controller to my Warco WMT300 with great success. As John does with his Myford I leave the lathe’s belt on a medium range and simply use the Teslar speed control – it’s magic!

            Regards   John

              Hi.

Can anyone give me the size of the CL750 box. I can’t find any details on there pages that will give me that information.

              Thanks, Chris
