I heard a rumour today that the EU in Brussels is tabling some new legislation about some commonly used materials.

Rumour has it they want to ban the use of iron and steel because they contain carbon, and carbon is flammable.

This has serious implications for model engineers. Personally I am worried about the safety risk of wearing a fire blanket in case my lathe bed bursts into flame. The fire blanket could get caught up in the chuck jaws.

            Hi There
Quite right too, it should be banned. Steel swarf burns very hot and it is almost impossible to put it out.

Try putting a 9 volt batterey onto a Brillo pad.
            regards David

We used to do that to make igniters for – well let’s say if you did what we did down the quarry as kids now, they’d put you in Guantanamo Bay…

On the topic of the EU, did you hear they will be demolishing Brighton Pavilion because of the EU ban on minarets?

Not to mention all that CO2, specially from burning cast iron…

I wouldn’t worry about the EU Gents. Our own home grown lot are no better.

I gather you need certifcation to sell a goldfish,  and a passport to prove age before buying one.

If ever anyone had failed to ask “what if?”

                    Hi There
                    That is stupid.
How many goldfish are likely to have a passport?
                    regards David

Since obtaining a passport now requires fingerprints, I looked in the freezer and apparently only Cod have fish-fingers.

So no Goldfish (Except the older ones perhaps)

What do you mean about the home grown lot?  They are only doing what they are told by Brussels rather than what we want them to do. We need less of them[say around 50%] and electronic voting in the “house” to speed up voting, at present takes them 30 mins to vote twice!! Only pay them when they are in the house sitting doing what we send them there to do.
