a6ffe711-b404-4bfa-b0e6-8bc6a01a6761.jpegCan anyone tell me what this device is used for? I am familiar with the dial indicator but cannot work out what this setup is used for. The Indicator is screwed to the base using the back cover screw locations. The back and bottom of the base unit appears to be ground flat and square and the bottom probe is fixed. I inherited 2 of these units along with tooling for a LeBlond 10" Regal Lathe. I have worked out what most of the tooling is for but not this bit! Any thoughts would be appreciated.

          Hello Matt

I am assuming that your picture is sideways, with the probe pointing upwards (rather than to the right). My guess is that this tool has been used to check the depth of holes or borings made on the lathe, and the fixed probe is located against a datum on the work, rather than relying on the work always being chucked in exactly the same position.

Please note – I have been known to be wrong. Yes, even me (voice from the kitchen – especially you).

          Cheers, Tim
