New workshop – Quart into a Pint Pot!

Due to a house move and losing a double garage a new 'man cave' had to be built. A 14'x8' insulated build with most of the essentials 'shoe horned' in. Still more to do.

Best purchase were the 4K LED Batons, I've lost count of how many glass tubes I've inadvertently smashed in the past!

Also the non slip 'coined' rubber sheet on the floor and bench tops. Very easy to keep clean and totally resistant to oils etc.,

…..and you can never have enough sockets!

I did the opposite to you and went from a 12' X 8' workshop to a 20' X 10' and I just wondered how I got all of the equipment into the small one. You seemed to have managed to squeeze it all in and still have some worktop space

Your new workshop looks great, gives me inspiration for a downsizing move. Sadly the Bridgeport and 14"x40" lathe will have to go. Health is going downhill so best to sell soon and get set up with smaller kit.

Funnily enough I've just made some steps up to the door today!

All the machines were manually lifted up with the exception of the Sieg Mill, which I used a planks and sack truck then internally an engine crane to get it up onto the bench.

Can I ask about your vice arrangement. I will be fitting out a garage as a workshop this year and am currently designing it in my head. I was thinking of a similar co-located vice arrangement to allow metal and woodworking projects, but obviously don't want the vices or the workpieces to foul each other.

And any comments about the DeWalt bandsaw – any good?

personally I’d avoid dual use of a vice for metal work and wood work – metal work tends to be oily which is often the last thing you want on woodwork – also on a woodworking vice it is common to inset the fixed jaw so that a wooden rail along side of bench can act as the fixed jaw with a wooden cover fitted to the moving jaw – both these will be easily damaged if in contact with metal.

Looking at my workshop, I wonder where you will put all the small tools and bits and pieces. I find they take up more space than machine tools.

Still an excellent job on the layout. I bet it doesn't stay as neat once you start work! I seem to take as much time tidying up and putting things back as I do constructive work!!
