A more appropriate title would be something like

      New Forum text editor

This post is most definitely NOT about a website editor

Well what ever it is going to be called, I now only have to click once to go back one step instead of usually three or sometimes 4 times. A fine improvement. My browser is Firefox 10.01

You had that 'going back' problem as well, did you.

I kept blaming my poor old mouse.

I now notice that it works properly.

I also noticed we now have a better choice of smileys wink 2

Perhaps a more serious problem is that, for me at least, clicking on the "quote" button at the end of a post no longer works. It takes me to the editor but the quote doesn't appear.

My first impression of the new text editor (which I now know changed after this topic started) is not very positive.sad

I have only used it twice (including this message) and I found the spellchecker useless. Normally when I reply to posts I use the editor rather than pasting from another programme. To spellcheck I right click and use 'ie spell'. That facility is no longer available.

I must have a dictionary somewhere on the PC which SCAYT says it can use. Before I get involved I would like to ask if anyone has any experience with SCAYT, whether it is worth persevering with?

Just to prove a point, I have quoted you Russell, it works for me, I'm using the latest Firefox release on a fully patched Windows 7 platform.

DC1, I appreciate what you are saying – It is about a text EDITOR on the WEBSITE. however, it is not about a 'website editor', that is something entirely different, I suspect that the title has drawn people in out of curiosity but the title is misleading, we are talking about a text editor not a website editor, the connotations of the two are entirely different!

The quote thing didn't work for me either with the latest Firefox (10.0.1) and XP.

Ian P, I was going to say you can get a spelling checker plugin for Firefox which works wherever you enter text on the internet. You have a choice of dictionaries too. Possibly something similar exists for IE.

However, for some reason it doesn't seem to be working here any more, which is bizarre since it should be independent of the site software.

There used to be a free spell checker for IE called IESpell, but I don't think it works with IE9, havent tried it as we have found so many incompatibility issues, we stick to IE8 for when its needed but use anything else in preference cool

I have never had a problem copying from “word”.

Quote is working for me now. Perhaps someone is fixing the stuff in real time here.

As far as I can see, SCAYT, even when disabled, hijacks the right click which may be why my external (i.e. contained in the browser) spelling checker doesn't work now. To me that's a restriction and therefore a negative.

Quote no longer works for me using FireFox 10.01 on Windows 7.

Typing is exceptionally slow, I feel like I am typing underwater, it is so slow that I find that I am making mistakes as my fingers are ahead of what appears on the screen.

Even more frustratingly, the built in FireFox spell checker which is perfectly functional has now been disabled, only to be replaced by SCAYT which, when turned on makes a slow text editor even slower.

So all in all a dismal failure as a text editor a retrograde step that doesn't even correct one of the many enormous shortcoming that this forum software has, and that is the ability to preview a message before posting; a standard feature of just about any other forum software.

The 'link' button just makes the whole tab fade, as if a pop-up will appear, and then freeze, though I can see other tabs normally. This is Firefox 3.6.10 so perhaps upgrade time…

The image tab also makes the active screen fade in the same way.

You write in Your message “I was most disturbed to se Dias Costa's "two simple testes" – I thinke hes talking bo%&*$^&£…. no signal “.

                                                    Hi Dias,

I think Neil's remark was about the text you choosed for your test. I liked it wink

But why the heck did you write twice 'posted from MS Word 2003' ?

Well this is a test for the new editor also. At least quoting is working again so that I can write on the left margin without the quote bar (but I needed a couple of trials to get here).

                                                    Greetings, Hansrudolf

                                                      Hi Dias,

I don't think you need worry about Neil's comment. I think he's making a play on an unfortunate spelling mistake. I assume you meant to write:

'test' – to try something out

                                                      instead you typed:

'teste' – which Neil has converted to the plural 'testes', part of the male reproductive organs, for which a slang equivalent is 'b@ll@ocks'

I don't understand the 'no signal' bit though; and I would claim to be a native English speaker.

                                                      Regards,

                                                      Andrew
