I have just been given a chassis and a box of parts and a book. The book is titled Maisie words and music is there enough information in there to complete the engine or will I have to get some more drawings. Also what is this engine, has it got a name or is it a generic type.

Hi David, Maisie is a Great Northern Atlantic, it was named Maisie after an LNER official F.E. Williams' daughter. I don't know if the book contains enough information, but the book has been reprinted a few years ago and is allegedly very complete.

          Regards Nick.

            Hi David

Nice gift! Masie is a great little engine I've driven a couple, nice wide firebox makes it easier to fire and they look pretty much like the full size. I'm sure if you look on the Station Road Steam site they will have some pictures in the archive section of some they have sold in the past. If you plan to build it it's worth having a word with a boiler inspector he will advise on bringing things up to date, some of LBSC's early designs had fittings screwed directly into the boiler plates and other features that just need updating. The Model Engineering Proboards site has lists of drawing errors in many designs, worth checking there's usually a few creep in and it can save a few unpleasant surprises!

If you do finish it we all love a build log!

            Dave

Would be good to see this loco completed!

Both Reeves and Blackgates list Maisie.

              Reeves describe it thus

              "

              • 4-4-2 GNR Atlantic tender locomotive
              • Designed by LBSC as a replica of the Great Northern Railways "Large Atlantic"
              • Described in Model Engineer Vols 72-76
              • Length: 43.25"
              • Boiler Dia: 4.375"
              • Cylinder Bore: 1.25"
              • Driving Wheel dia: 4.75"

              "
