We just had a new jukebox installed in the pub and it will not take the new pound coin, not thinking too far ahead there.

      Mike

As a short term fix, collect a load of old £1 coins behind the bar specially for the Juke Box then swap them for new coins from Customers who want to use the Juke Box

It is self recycling when the Juke Box is emptied (perhaps?).

I know of no proper term to describe what the Royal Mint has produced …

I found one. It probably counts as a form of ripple picture, the predecessor to lenticular printing.

        Neil

        .

That seems a very reasonable term to use, Neil yes

When I was a kid, I wanted to get a big bag full of self adhesive 'letter-I' shapes, and spend a night adding them to TO LET signs. Puerile, eh?

My doctor, when I was a kid/young-man, was a chap name " Pollock ". He had a nice, polished brass sign on the wall of his practice which proclaimed the fact. Amazing what some people can do with a rusty nail (a fact that might be useful to someone here who needs to engrave a piece of brass).

Sounds like excellent forward planning to me. Juke boxes and all other forms of music are an abomination in pubs, and are driving me away from drink. Pub I used to go to got an new landlord, who insisted on having music. Lost all his old customers, and has now thrown in the towel. We'll have to see whether there is a successor, and if there is will the music return. If so I won't!

I have just received my first one pound coin. The date on the face is 2016. I thought that the coin had only just been issued. Have I got the first dud ?

                Most unlikely

… Although they were issued in 2017, this first batch was minted in 2016

Luckily we have three pubs in the village that all offer a different experience so most tastes should be catered for, my favourite pub ever had live music every night and a sticky carpet that could be mistaken for Tarmac, it was a Bass Charington pub and never had Draught Bass! the beer was lousy so bad I actually had to drink lager for a while as the least worst option but the music was excellent.

With apologies for the poor image quality [I must try lighting it differently] here are a couple of photos showing the 'upset' of the ridges … which is how they produce the 'flip-flop' ripple picture:

As well as music in pubs being an abomination, I would add music in restaurants, cafes and in holiday coaches!

Well I was actually pretty impressed with the ripple picture but I do wonder how visible it'll be after the rough and tumble of countless pockets and tills – especially after seeing Michael's pictures of how the image is formed above.

Hi fizzy, well this morning I bought a cup of coffee for 30p, so if you get rid of the 1, 2, 5 and 10p that will immediately go up to at least 40p and you may not even get one for under £1.00 if they don't have any change, and just remember, no one is legally obliged to give you any change for any money you offer them as payment. If you don't want your small change you can send it to me, but more realistically, put it in the charity box, most shops have them.

                                            Regards Nick.

Surely a misprint? He means £3.00…

It might still be 1978 where Nick is,

Hi Neil & Mike, it is 2017 here and it was 30p, however it was in a social group and not commercial, but you would still be able to get a cup of tea for 20p, but the kids would have to pay 20p instead of 10p for their orange squash.

                                                    Regards Nick.

Sounds a nice friendly place to have a coffee, I do enjoy a coffee and read of the paper but a Telegraph and a cappuccino see's off the thick end of a fiver so it's not a daily treat.
