      Lambton,

Well, if Chronos told you your toolpost/tool holders were made in India there's no reason to doubt that. If you're happy with them all's well.

The point Chris Trice raised is that Chronos have/still do sell tool holders that are 'British Made' — see here:

      Chronos Ebay Listing

Since these appeared in their listings at around the same time as A & R Precision first made their products available to the public, the suspicion is that Chronos sourced them from that firm. But I don't know that that's ever been positively confirmed.

Hi Joe, that is seriously "inexpensive" for a British made product! I can't see any profit for anyone at that price if they are made in Britain?

I know they made several hundred for the old Myford just before they ceased trading. They found their way on eBay at a VERY attractive price and I bought six. When I went back for more a few weeks later, they'd all gone but Chronos had some suspiciously indentical ones available all of a sudden but with a premium added on top. Joining the dots wasn't too difficult.

smiley I received mine yesterday. Very pleased with the quality, speed of delivery (ahead of schedule I think) and communications throughout. The holders pull up perfectly on my Dixon toolpost – as they should, of course – and the clamp and adjuster screws fit very well with almost no perceptable wobble.

I am hoping the same firm will look at producing T0 and T1 toolholders in the future…….if you are interested, let them know!

No connection except a very satified customer.

            Rgds,

            John

I'll be very interested if the do the larger sizes too! I've got one from the R*D company and to be honest they are awful – over hardened and strip the threa off of the hold down bolts and generally 'not right'.The A & R ones are in a different league and if the price is good they will sell like hot cakes.

As I've found on anumber of occasions – attractive price is no substitute for quality and whenever possible now I stear clear of 'Emerging Market' products ……. i'd prefer to buy british or european products or second hand to new Chinese or Indian

All I can add to this thread is that I ordered a toolpost and three toolholders from A & R some six months ago, was very pleased with the quality and fit and as a result ordered nine more toolholders just before Christmas. These arrived a few days ago, ahead of the expected delivery date and on checking I found that they all fit the toolpost perfectly. The quality is first class, well worth the money; I've found A & R a very good firm to deal with and I'd have no hesitation in ordering from them again.

Hmmn, no wonder they've disappeared from Ebay! blush

I'm just hoping they have enough left to offer with the toolposts proper when they appear in a week or so!

I have twenty three of them. They make life so much easier. Could I add that A&R were also very efficient communicating and keeping me up to date with my order. Brunell should take note.

I have just received 8. Excellent quality and good comms. I would echo Chris' point about Brunell, having had a very frustrating experience with Graham a couple of years ago.

                            Hi,

I've been following this thread with interest as I'm thinking of getting a Myford/Dickson toolpost (or the A & R equivalent) for a Myford ML10. This lathe only has a 3.1/4" centre height so it has even less headroom than an ML7/S7. There's only 0.500" clearance between the lathe centre and the topslide upper surface. Indications are that I'll only be able to use 1/4" tool bits (or maybe 5/16th" if I pre-grind them to get under centre height).

In a thread back in August JohnF said this:

"Another point to watch the original Myford / Dickson tool holders were 0.225 thick at the bottom most of the import clones are 6mm 0.236" and some are 0.250. Worth measuring before buying . Look at A & R Precision they have been making for Myford and the holders are top quality."

Can JohnF or recent buyers of the A & R Precision toolholders please confirm that the bottom ledge forming the tool seating is indeed 0.225" thick?

I am happy to confirm that my A&R Precision toolholders are 0.225" thick below the tool seating as indeed so are my "Original Myford" toolholders.

Just a note to say my comment about the toolholders having disappeared from Ebay was wrong — probably because I was using 'toolpost' rather than 'toolholder' as the search term. In fact the toolholders are still listed as shown in the attached link.

Don't worry – given the rate at which they are selling and the write up's here I'm sure A & R will be producing more and possibly expanding their range. There was talk of a rear toolpost appearing on the market later this month; I'll be interested to see it.

I use mine on my ML10 and I haven't encountered any problems yet although most of my tooling is 1/4" square HSS.

Just to add, like KWIL earlier, I've checked three of my toolholders, from both earlier delivery and the latest, and all have 0.225" thick bottom ledge. Incidentally the centre height on my ML10 is greater than the nominal 3 1/4" at 3.3125" so might be worth checking yours (if you haven't already, of course).

Yes, my ML10 is a smidgeon over nominal at 3.5/16" centre height but the ruling factor for a QCTP is that the spindle centre line is only 1/2" above the topslide surface. The practical maximum tool size for a Myford/A & R QCTP is therefore 0.500 – 0.225 = 0.275", just over 1/4". Anyway, I'm content with that and at a pinch can use 5/16 bits by grinding them down to centre height.

I am like all others commenting in this strand really pleased with the buy

At £90 for the lot it's a real bargain.

I told Darren he could sell 'em for England at that price and quality
