Hello all, I am a semi retired design engineer with a background starting in machine shops and progressing through to chief engineer at a large automotive supplier.

Now working part time as a consultant engineer and volunteering at a local steam museum, a windmill, on the parish council and village hall committee.

In the time I have available between work and volunteering, I have a range of projects in my home workshop.

Current projects include a large (2.3 litre) 7 cylinder radial engine, a much smaller 9 cylinder rotary engine, a tilting pedal driven tricycle and a couple of 1950s motorcycles.

I am a lapsed private pilot. I now satisfy my desire for aviation from building and flying models.

With every new project, I try to introduce something new that I have not done before.

I have joined this forum in the expectation of learning from other members.

Hi Pete, Welcome to the party. You have an interesting range of projects. I have worked in all forms of engineering for 60 years and am also a parish councillor of 35 years. I’m up near Hunstanton. Best wishes, Noel.

Hi Pete, seems like you have some interesting projects.

I also have a background in automotive design, live in Norfolk (a few miles west of Norwich), and volunteer at a museum (Gressenhall). Occasionally I find time to work on a model Le Rhone – but I’ve only got as far as the carburettor!

                      Welcome,

You have a number of contacts in Norfolk, and no doubt, others in Cambridgeshire.

                      You will certainly be busy

                      Regards

                      Howard

Just in passing, I had always wondered how the Gnome monosupape worked until in a stroke of luck I spotted the workshop manual in a box of old books at a local auction and got the box for £3. Noel.

Thanks all for the warm welcome!

Re Gnome, my rotary will look like a gnome, but internally I am doing something quite different in an attempt to make a small but practical engine for a flying model. It is very much in the experimental stage – I am building a single cylinder non-rotary to prove some of the principles.
