Hi all. Just joined this forum. I'm refurbishing a 4" traction engine at the moment. Previously I was a Marine Engineering Officer (Steam) so more used to turbines and 700 deg C superheat steam. Got a bit of a challenge on my hands. Anmyone know clubs local to me?

Hello John and welcome. I'm sure someone will be along soon with suggestions for clubs around Swindon but here is one. As usual it caters for railway models but it's a start.

If you are referring to West Wiltshire Society of Model Engineers their website quotes "We have members interested in building Clocks, Sun Dials, Hot air engines, Traction Engines, & Live Steam Locomotives of all sizes."

The reason many clubs are formed around a track and public running is that it pays the club running costs. Without such a revenue it is very hard to find the £3k a year needed to run a club for insurance, meeting rooms, speakers etc. So please DON'T disparage clubs that do public running. In the coming year many clubs are going to struggle to pay running costs.
