      Hi All

I am new to. Model Engineering but I have been modelling for 46 years and have worked in Engineering for 34 years in various capacities.

My educational background is Mechanical Engineering having been trained in Machining and Bench fitting but that was a long time ago.

I am currently working on Caldercrafts Imara with twin PM research No 8 Engines and it is researching the drivetrain that has got me hooked on the idea of building my own Steam Engine/s.

I do possess a modest Chinese Lathe and mill but I am determined to rise to the challenge of obtaining good results from these with various mods/additions. My College tutor used to say a good machinist can work around the shortfalls in tolerances of machines. I had complained about always working on an old prewar Ward Lathe when other students were on new Colchesters.

Throughout my life I have never done things by half so you won’t be surprised if I say my first build is going to be an OB Bolton Triple Expansion Engine!

I have the castings from Reeves and have already machined the important bits of the base casting and I am currently working on the crank from Billet EN1A mild steel. All Eccentrics are being machined integral with the crank.

I will start a log shortly

      Kind Regards

      Nigel

            Welcome!

Hope that your projects all proceed with minimum problems

Fantastic work has been done on small lathes, so don’t be disheartened.

Folk with Drummonds that are a century old are turning out good work, so anything is possible.
