Good evening folks, I am Nathan Ollett from Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk and I am looking to pursue an interest in model engineering. My father Joe had a keen interest in this past time and spent many hours in his workshop making miniature engines. I work as a design engineer for a company in Brandon which make glazing products and using CAD is something I love in work time and outside work. Back in 2013 I modelled up onecof dad’s oscillating machines in 3D. Sadly dad passed away in 2014 and want to carry on the interesting hobby of model engineering as sonething for me. I am lucky to be able to design and build. I look forwardcto hearing from everyone.
Welcome to the forum. I am in Sydney, Australia and have also been a user of CAD for most of my worcking career. Still model everything in 3D before cutting steel. Lots of good help and knowledge here about models and model making.
I've been using CAD at home and at work since Autocad release 14, initially on an IBM portable PC with a built in screen of about 6 in! Started model engineering on retirement.
I'm just down the road in Long Melford and have a small model engineering workshop. I don't know of any clubs near by, but I am more than happy to help you out machine and such like if you could teach me some basic CAD. I work in Norwich so travel through Bury every day. Welcome.
I am a little further down the road in Haverhill, I am a member of Cambridge Club come and see us one Sunday there is a club in Brandon but I know nothing of them personally
Thank you for your message. I will certainly take you up on visiting Cambridge club. I will look up Brandon club too. I like the pictures of the model railway.
Nathan
