I just stumbled across this forum so thought I had better sign up. I have a Colchester Student 1800 with an ancient Newall DRO and an Adcock-Shipley Bridgeport 42" mill with an ancient powered traverse. Majority of what I am making is for ham radio, deep space satellite links and antennas. I was trained in general workshop practice in 1975, but have spent the rest of my life doing data networking, electronic engineering and cyber security, so I am on a very steep learning curve trying to become a vaguely competent machinist.
I do a lot of work with C101 copper, horrible stuff. **LINK** Also lots of aluminium for enclosures for electronic kit **LINK** and antenna feeds **LINK**
I have some nasty chatter issues with the Bridgeport using shell mills and flycutters on copper, so I'm trying to get the gibs and leadscrews set up as perfectly as possible, and trying every combination of feed/speed and rake/relief. Bit of a nightmare, but a good learning experience.
On my wishlist is a surface grinder and a shaper, also powered knee/transverse feed and DRO for the BP.
