        Hello all on the forum.

I am a semi retired nightwatch man with loads of time at night to look at different forums related to engineering. I like the Model Beginner forum for varied discussions on all types of subjects.

I was a skilled precision sheetmetal worker for over 25 years started in 1975, all hand made no CNC then, but back problems put an end to that, but still dabble with metal in my spare time at home.

I have a small lathe and mill with most of tooling needed for making small air powered engines.

I am shocked at the price of material needed to make things today, stuff that was chucked in the scrap bin years ago would be handy now.

I hope to post some question in the near future, as I have a lot of bad practice, but they work.

Must go now for my hourly round, its not a bad job only work three night a fortnight..

        Thanks Alfie

Welcome Alfie, I'm always in awe of sheet metal workers, having worked in the aircraft industry (as a quality engineer), and some of the people I knew could do almost anything with a piece of metal.

Any chance of posting a few pictures of your engines?

            Brian

Welcome Alfie, like Brian I have always admired the "Tinnies" I used to work next door to a sheet metal place and loved watching the people using a English Wheel.

                Hello Alfie,

Welcome to the forum. I'm fairly new to it myself. Unlike you I don't have a lot of time to spend browsing. Anywa y, the Internet service is poor in this area. I know what a bad back is, but I was lucky and was introduced to a chiropractor, so it's pretty much history now. We have a farm in Ireland which is hard work any way you look at it. Maybe we should talk. my website is heronmeadows.com.

                All the best

                Jim Cahill

                    Hello all

I am new to the model engineering forum and have been in manufacturing all my working life, working as a design/production engineer, having started as an apprentice at Raleigh cycles in Nottingam, when there was thousands of people working there, now it is just an housing estate. I am at that time in my life when I have started to think about early retirement in a few years time. I can't just sit around doing nothing, so one of the things I am planning to do is set a model engineering workshop. I have just purchased a Myford Super 7 lathe of 1958 vintage which is in excellent condition. I have got my eye on a chester milling machine somebody is selling on this site. I just need to contact them to find out more details, can somebody please help me with this.

                    Regards Gary
