Hello everyone.

My name is Jerry and I live in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. I'm not a complete beginner as I have been a mechanical fitter and engineering manager for about 40 years. However, I have little machining experience and, reading some of the threads has already given me some valuable tips.

I have one long side of a garage for my workshop with washing machines, freezers and domestic type stuff running down the other side.

So I have a sort of galley workshop (long and thin).

I have a Portass lathe, a Chinese pillar drill and a D/E grinder.

I have half made a Stuart 10H but I'm trying to make a few tools for the lathe at the moment.

Try to stay away from that domestic machinery that's intruded into your workshop. I'm pretty sure housework isn't allowed in the man cave! You could store swarf in the washing machine though…

Hi Jerry – what model of Portass? My first lathe was a model "S", back in the 70s. Pictures of mine here, although there were quite a few different versions.

If you put the machine on spin you can recover the cutting oil!
