      Well Michael

Looking through the CV link you provide perhaps this guy could be of some use to the ME community.

He states he has the :-

” Ability to influence self-belief and resilience in others when faced with set-backs.”

So he may be able to help me – but I doubt that he will then have time left to help the rest of you!

      Regards

I think the trade will just ignore it as they advertise enough.

Having read Michael’s CV link, I am intrigued by all the buzzwords employed. Somehow, I doubt very much that this person would “empower” me to do anything! Sorry, but this sort of thing simply does not impress me. But then, since I’m in no position to be influenced by it, what does it matter?

          Regards,

I wonder whether this is worth the time – chasing links, researching I don’t know what, etc. I read a couple of posts at the front, and the last.

If the mag comes out, it will come out, and it will, I daresay be advertised. If not it won’t.

I feel my time is better spent munching metal?

2012 will see the launch of a new magazine to be distributed via subscription
only and selected outlets; being intended to fill a need in the market and to
compliment the current offerings in the arena and so seeking to work
alongside them, whilst at the same time offering subscribers’ value for money
as one of its core values.

It’s good to see the highest standards of editing will be used and that the new magazine will be heaping praise on its erstwhile competitors…

Are you saying that the ‘new’ magazine while praising it’s competitors will force them out of business? surely not

I see that this mag now has its own web site and will be concentrating on kit & ready to run models, rather a turnaround considering only a few months back they said:

"aiming to publish in-depth articles and with no emphasis on kit builders or the off-the-shelf bregade!"

How unique, yet another loco / steam magazine, they must have spotted an unpublished niche in the market ?

Not a very promising start, spelling errors (by the editor himself!), yellow text on white background. Probably lost more things but I cannot be bothered to look.

                      Maybe they use SCAYT?

It might be written by all those that claim to be dissatisfied with the content of ME and MEW and are starting up on their own.

I'm prepared to wait and see how it turns out. You never know – its content may be exclusively metric and CNC. surprise

Reminds me of various magazine start ups in the 1960s and 1970s.

Many only ran for a few issues, now highly sought after by collectors because of their rarity.

A new mag startup was never an easy option for anyone, will be interesting to see if this new kid on the block can survive.

                                Hi

It strikes me that not many people will sign up for a subscription without seeing the magazine first. Especially when monry is tight.

I saw that you can do a two magazine subscription, but I may not like the first one let alone a second!

                                Regards

It would be good to know how many pages the mag is likely to contain excluding adverts so you know what you are getting for your money, that £25 may not be such a bargain for 10 pages per mag.

If its kit based then I'll not even be trying the two issues out, the making is what I enjoy.

This was the guy that undertook to be the editor of the Southern Federation Newsletter last year. Only produced one interim copy, which was, as this Editors Profile shows on the link metioned above, laced with information about his home club, then for whatever reason left. Now we know the reason. Best of British to whoever subscribes!!

He could well have a market. In the early days of kit Locos the guys certainly needed a lot of help especially as a high proportion had no idea what model engineering was or the tremendous support system there is for the traditional part of the hobby. Someone who has just spent >£5k on a loco kit will think £25 for the support mag is quite cheap and it is compared to my weekly petrol and food bills.

Although the kits are I understand much better that just means more will be sold to the inexperienced. You only have to read a few forums to see how many people buy lathes with no engineering knowledge nor even the wit to work out what the levers on their shiney lathe do. Lots of "men" even get the AA to mend a puncture these days.

Also I believe there is a massive following for tank kits and other militaria which are not traditional ME subjects. Model boating magazines seem to be mostly about building kits and glossy pictureres of them.

It might survive if we give it half a chance.

Anyone ever noticed the mountain of women's mags in the shops? What the hell are they all aboutquestiondont know

I'm prepared to risk £9 to give it a try. One good nugget of information could repay that investment many times over, so I say that if it is a flop, it's just one more amongst the myriad of others out there.

Sorry, but not for me for the simple reason it's about steam.

Nothing wrong with steam, just don't rev me up and most of the current mags are steam heavy anyway. There are ooddles more to do in a home workshop than make loco's or even models for that fact.

Did you know that a large proportion of vintage vehicle members have never heard of ME or MEW ?

Or even the suppliers we use every day, to them you can only buy bits from Machine Mart or Seeley?

There is a vast market of the unwashed running about out there with money to spend.

As some know I do a lot with the small CNC and get to install and train quite a few machines and their new owners. Now this isn't about CNC but taking a rough split 25% of new owners are model engineers, the other 75% are people making thier own lines, prototyes etc

Even had one Oxford professor who wanted his to engrave fancy patternson styrofoam board so he could study water running over different patterns !

                                          John S.
