I usually view this forum on my PC but just looked at it on our iPAD ( well I say "our" but getting it away from my wife is difficult!) I agree the green above the posts shows nearly black on the iPad and that, coupled with the smaller size, is quite distracting. I guess that as Gray says he is prone to headaches this could cause a problem. Is there saturation control which could reduced a bit?

Hi Graham,

From a commercial point of view, your comments are interesting and create a dilemma. Please bare with me, as I am trying to approach this with a positive view. You may not see it that way, and I apologise in advance to you and to anyone to whom this may cause offence.

1. Your photos on here are on a public forum, and to the best of my knowledge, they can be used by MTM, in accordance with their forum terms and conditions, without consulting you. You may wish to run this by your solicitors before talking about litigation by any party.

As your photo is not officially published in a magazine, and as you have accepted MTM forums Ts & Cs at the time of joining, there is no issue of their expressly obtaining specific permission from you, so, with the greatest of respect, the question of ‘courtesy’ does not arise in this forum based environment, regardless of either one of us agreeing or disagreeing to this point.

So, for example, after accepting MTM forums Ts & Cs, if you publish a picture on here which you later use in any book or anywhere else, the issue of permission is between you and that publisher. That publisher has no specific case against MTMs – forum based platform!

So, please relax. In a situation such as above, I fail to see how this can be a litigation issue for your third party publisher.

2. If you fail to accept MTMs Ts & Cs, then you have to ask MTM to remove all your pictures from this site, along with your threads, which they may or may not agree to, which is something between them and you. But, what will all this achieve?

At the end of the day, your threads and pictures which you post on this forum are the key marketing medium for you, and in my opinion, they only serve to assist your publisher. These pictures and threads help you, in the same way as they help Harold Hall, to promote all your books – old or new. If you don’t agree with this comment, sure you can get yourself removed from here and join another forum, which is up to you.

However, you will have lost the entire marketing PR which you have built up here for you and your book/s. In turn, this could affect sales for your book/s. Whether you agree or disagree with the Tc & Cs, this forum has a far greater world ranking = marketing reach then many others you care to frequent.

So, if you talk about permissions – which MTM doesn’t need to obtain if you post on this forum, which in turn could lead to yourself coming off because you do not accept MTMs Ts & Cs, then you are only wasting your energy and affecting your health.

So, I am sorry if this has offended you in any way, but if you chose to accept this forum as a marketing medium, knowingly or unknowingly, then there are some consequences and compromises you have to make, as we all do, including me at Arc Euro Trade Ltd. Again, I say this with the greatest of respect.

I've deliberately refrained in passing comment before I had used the 'new' layout for a while.

Other than the RH advertising, that is somewhat distracting to say the least, everything else is fine.

The lighter green is so so much easier on the eyes.

Could the black Home bar just flow into the green Login bar, as its a bit disjointed and looks like an afterthought, with the black jarring.

!yahoo need to employ you, instead of wasting the millions they have on their new useless CEO.

Katy IS listening, and fixing what she can, that cannot be said of !yahoo.

I've designed websites in the past, and it takes ages getting it right and tested, something !yahoo will go down in web history as having failed miserably, and upset just about all of its user base.

Three cheers for Katy, she DIDN'T do a !Yahoo on us!

I've made a list of outstanding issues, I will have to come back to these and/or consider the other websites before I can fix them, but at least I have made a note and when I get chance I'll look at them properly. I have to get on with MREmag and GetWoodworking now, but you can email me at katy.purvis@mytimemedia.com if you feel there are additional problems that I can help with.

1. Adblock interference with login and other icons in the top green bar: I may have progress on this
2. Renaming inbox to messages: cannot be done at the moment, but will see what I can do
3. Background color: please see my album for a potential fix, I don't think it is an improvement as it makes the current layout look unbalanced, as there is no padding/margin at the edges, and we will have to adjust the whitespace everywhere
4. Sales/Wanted/Friends pod order and position, I will speak to Diane and David about this
5. Smileys: will have to investigate use by other forums
6. Resize screen issues: need further investigation

Ziggar, I have temporarily fixed your DE access. I am still trying to find a better solution with our subscription manager and the subs company.

Graham, I'm sorry for all the misunderstanding. At the risk of opening it all up again, please could I have retrospective permission to use your photo, if you are saying that you don't mind. I am sorry that I was impolite and didn't ask at the beginning, I didn't know it was your photo, and a lack of time and my previous experience led me to assume it was ok to use it. I have an alternative picture that I can use if you would prefer, but I don't want to further offend you by removing your photo at this point.

Light Grey background is easier on the eyes

Also noticed that we get a flashing envelope now when a new message is waiting, this is good as some people don't notice they have a message if they have e-mail notification turned off

No one will find any of my works published (because I have none), I am not professional in model engineering (I'm only retired from TI), I have no ambitions in this area and only spent money on the hobby.
In the wake of what happened to Graham Meek including the relative neglect that is handled his departure, I decided that henceforth all the images that come to deposit in the forum ME / MEW will benefit from watermark.

Ah dear.

I am a Moderator on another forum and we occasionally have people who say protracted goodbyes. Occasionally I do want to say 'Please come don't go', and others I wish I had the power to terminate their membership so that a 'Goodbye' means 'hop it now'.

Graham, I suspect you're in the former category and you'll be missed.

As for photo's, I have one used by the Onoto Pen company brochure without being asked. I was a bit niggled to begin with, but in the end I realised it was because for once in my life I had actually take a good photo!

I read Grahams initial comments, which led to the response I made to his original posts.

Like some or many who are following this post, I misunderstood the REAL meaning of his original posts, which led me to make the wrong judgement about him. Having since corresponded with him privately at length, and having understood what he was really trying to say, I now withdraw my initial comment.

Grahams situation is a little different to many others on this forum, where to help the model engineering fraternity, he spreads his knowledge across the print publication media, as well as helping people across forums. This leaves him exposed to potential issues across both the printed and forum medias. This message has been difficult for Graham to communicate, and it has been misinterpreted by few or many, including me.

With hindsight, in my case, I should have communicated with him privately, instead of airing my views publicly. For this, I apologise. I hope that Graham continues to help people across the model engineering industry, rather than walk away, as a result of all the negative vibe which has been generated by some or many of us, resulting from the misunderstanding. It will be a real loss if he decides to leave.

Hi Katy. The work on the appearance of the website is fine. No complaints from this little black duck. The way that you have actually responded to the users is quite commendable.

I do have a query though.

Is it possible for one to edit a message that one has posted to correct typographical errors?

I just posted a message and noticed a few spelling errors. (I know I should have checked it before hitting the 'Post' button.

Danny you have the option to edit any post but there is a time limit after which you can't go back and change anything only a moderator can edit it after that time.

Just adding this line after posting the reply, once posted  "Edit Post" will appear in the green bar at the top of your post, just click and alter your message.

So far the new look seems to work fine for me the more you use it the easier it gets, as with most things.

In the same context I have recently purchased a Samsung tablet from PC world (usual disclaimer) & tried to log into MEW on it, once I got the hang of the basic, but I couldn't log in as the black title bar had dropped down to cover the log in box. It's fine on my desktop & laptop just not on the tablet device, could it be that that particular 'Field box' has detached itself from the main format (IT whizz's can guess what I mean) in android OS or is it not formatted for Android apps?  I used my normal search engine for access via t'internet so I would have thought it would come up as normal web page, any help would be appreciated,

Maybe in the wrong thread but..

I had a similar issue. Try clearing your browser cache as it might be using a slightly out of date or corrupted style sheet.
