      Hi,

This is actually my first post to the forum, but I have been reading the posts for quite a few years.

My background and career has been IT-based, but I have been interested in engineering and building things since I was young, having started with model train layouts, through R/C model aircraft to rebuilding cars and now model engineering, having setup my first proper model engineering workshop about 14 years ago. Unfortunately, work got in the way so things have not progressed as far as I would have liked.

Having returned from France, where I last worked, I have now retired and have moved to the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides (and that’s another story…) and I am now in the process of building myself my “dream” workshop and looking forward to getting some things built!

I thought it was about time I introduced myself, as well as find out whether there are any other like-minded people also residing out here in the Hebrides :-).  If there are, then please feel free to get in contact.

I suspect though, that I may very well be depending upon these forums for advice and guidance in the coming years with there not really being any clubs within easy access of the island.

      Cheers

      Pete

Hi Peter welcome to the forum. What are you interested in at the moment it seems you have in the past a varied dabble in diferent models etc. I know there are restrictions on what companies and suppliers who deliver to the islands but ask on here and hopefully members will help. What machinery do you have as it is always interesting what people can make with there tools.

                Welcome to the Forum.

You will always find a need for extra space or storage in your shop.

In mine, if there is a horizontal surface, somethging will be placed onj oi!

But go ahead, and good luck.

                Howard

                  Hi all,

Many thanks for the welcome and comments.

David – I was concerned about whether I would have issues with delivery of items, but to date that has not proven to be the case. When I first started model engineering and my interests there very much lie with steam and more specifically locomotives, I purchased my first lathe and mill from Warco. These travelled with me to France, but the cost of bringing them back, as well as storing them in the interim meant I sold them to friends in France. I have continued with Warco though who have been very helpful and have already shipped me here on the island, a WM20 mill and a GH1330 lathe amongst other things without any problem, so certainly recommend Warco. Having had a background in IT, CNC is also an interest and I’m currently considering getting a CNC mill as a “retirement present”… we shall see 🙂

As to my next main project, I am going to be having a go at building an LMS Jubilee in 5” gauge following the A. Allcock design so that should be both challenging and interesting, but there will be many other side projects along the way!

                  Pete
