New beginner; Russell

Hello all

Recently bought myself a cheap Chinese mini-lathe, taken it out to my new retirement home in Portugal, and was enjoying finding out how difficult it all is when you've never done anything like this at all.

Now returned to UK and am marooned here, and my lathe is marooned in Portugal, so everything is now on hold whilst coronavirus continues.

Nothing to ask at the moment therefore, but rest assured I shall pester you all unbearably when I can proceed.

The reason for joining the forum right now is to draw the attention of those who don't know the valuable resource that is "archive.org" website for historical documents for those who are interested in early railways.

A more specific answer to a query raised about early carriages will be given in that thread, if I can make it work.

Sorry to hear that you are forcibly separate from your new machine.

Dare i suggest having a think, and a read up, on accessories that you can make for it, when reunited?

You can spend the time thinking about the designs, and possibly accumulating mayterial.

Also, keep reading the Forum!

There is always something interesting and useful on here, even if it does not feature your particular machine or project.

Welcome along Russell. Get yourself a copy of "The Amateur's Lathe" by L H Sparey and/or Neil Wyats book on the Mini Lathe and have a good read.

I happen to have a very nice example of "The Amateur's Lathe" (1999 print) by L. H. Sparey.

I bought it back when I had a Myford Super 7, but I haven't read much in the book.

If interested, please write. At least you can read about turning, right?
