I suppose a lot depends on how many you need making and a rough idea of what you'll be using them for – they look like a catch or a lock to me.

Yes, it's a part out of a locking mechanism, I need at least 25 of them, I'd be looking to pay around £5.00 each to have the part reproduced in steel, the die cast is prone to failing and breaking up.

I'd probably be needing more in the future too.

£125, that would not even cover the cost of an 8mm broach to make the square hole unless someone willing already has one.

Do you have a CAD drawing as that would be the quickest way to make them and would save you paying someone to also measure teh part & draw it up

unfortunately no, I thought the square hole may have been the sticking point..

                    Hi Bill T1,

What about an half inch socket, as in spanner?

                    Regards, Bear..

                      Cast them in something substantial?

Just a thought, it would be much cheaper to reproduce them. They look like they could be made half 'metal' half curry powder from the photograph.

steel componenthere's one in steel, so it can be done, not sure if the square corners have been achieved by broaching..

You might be able to print them. See:

you would need to generate a CAD model.

they have to hold their own in terms of mechanical wear and tear temp range -10 to +30 degrees Celsius outside temps, good shout though

That's looks like it's part of a UPVC style door lock?

I have a door at previous workplace that always breaks those, it's a nightmare, we replace the lock every 6 months – 1 year!

                                Hi Bill ,

Ideal component for lost wax casting in mild steel .

(I say mild steel but you could just as easily have them in Nimonic or Titanium if you wanted).

Easy simple process to get things made lost wax . You can do most of the work apart from actual casting yourself though there are several turnkey companies that will do the whole job for you .

                                Regards ,

                                MikeW

bang on! upvc door lock the whole unit costs £100.00ish,

I've done some digging and have managed to source them in steel ~ delivered £22.50 each!! grieves me to pay it for such a small component, but hey such is life,

wax casting in mild steel? that sounds interesting.. Tell me more about the process.

Probably cost £50.22 in lost wax and steel casting wink

If I was making a small run of those I'd silver solder two bars with 90-degree vees in together to make the central square hole.

                                        Not for £5 each though.

Shapeways steel goes up to 800 odd degrees.
