Need some help in Identification

Hi

 

I have inherited this partially built steam loco, unfortunately I have no idea what it is, or its value, although I love model engineering I don’t think I could ever do this justice, so probably plan to sell it.

Any help on ID’ing and a guesstimate of value would be greatly appreciated.

Hi James,

 

It looks very much like the design for an LMS 2F tank loco by J. Austen-Walton. He described two versions (Twin Sisters) in Model Engineer back in 1949/early 50’s. Your chassis looks like the closer to scale version of the 2. If you go on the Station Road Steam website and look in the archive section under 5″ gauge locos, there are a couple of examples.

 

Difficult to put a value – maybe £500? It does look well made.

Had a quick look at what you suggested, it does seem to be pretty close to the 5 inch gauge LMS 2F 0-6-0T, has surface rust which I’m pretty sure would come off with Scotchbrite or similar, it does seem extremely well built.

 

I have a Wallers Table engine which is not quite complete, but hopefully I plan to finish, which again is very high quality workmanship, I’ve added some more high res photos and close up’s on the same Flikr page.

 

Do you think it is better to sell it on this type of website or fleabay?
