Repeating what has already ben said, the look to be , for want of a better term, “Length Rods” for use on Jig Borers.
Again, the rods are not adjustable for ,calibration, but the Micrometer sleeves ae.
Strictly speaking, they nshould be checked and adjusted in temeprtaure contolled comditions, in a Standards or calibration Room.
But lacking such luxuries, whatever is used as a standard to check the measurements should have “soaked” alongside the rods and micrometer heads for 24 hours, so that whatevber errors are introduced by not being at 20 C, should be the same.
Then, with minimal time held in the hand, each one can be have the sleeve adjusted to Zero on the length standard being used.
If you are using a vernier, examine the readings very carefully with a magnifier, in tghat way you should be within a thou, (which is as good as you will get reading a vernier.
And how much pressure you exert can influence the accuracy of readings, aim for the same “feel” at each check.
Be wary if using a digital gauge, and check and recheck for repeatability.
As with all secondhand equipment, wear might have taken a toll, so don’t expect accuracy to tenths, let alone, hundredths of a thou.
For t our purposes, they will be adequate, no doubt, when not working to such fine limits.
