Mystery taper

Wonder if anybody could help me ID this taper. I was led to believe it was a B&S #9 but although the small and large diameters are about right for that, it would appear it's an inch or so too short!

Can anyone help please?

Sizes are appx as the only tool I could lay my hands on where I am at the moment is a cheap digital vernier and i'm not sure of its accuracy.

Unknown taper ID

The taper is approximately 0.486" per foot using your measurements. Brown and Sharpe is approximately 1/2" per foot, 0.50085(!) for number 9. Standard plug depth is 4 1/4".

It isn't Jarno or Morse both of which are about 0.6" per foot.

If your taper was extended by 1 1/4" it would be about 0.030" smaller, ten thou smaller than the .9008" of the small end of a Brown & Sharp No.9.

So… it might be one cut short, if your measurements are suspect, but I would expect a digital caliper to be within a thou or two.

I wouldn't go out and buy a mill to match taht taper though!

Thanks both for your assistance. Not sure why the post came up twice, must have hit submit twice I assume.

I am going to go with "short B&S #9" and work from there.
