Hi,

Does anyone recognise what this is from?

It was in some of my fathers workshop stuff, and he had it mounted on a wooden frame to operate it by electric motor. I tried some compressed air, then found the piston was missing! The bore is 7/16"

I'd quite like to get it operating, so if anyone can identify its origins, and even point me in the direction of drawings, that would be great!

I see wire and a switch. Is it n electrically heated boiler?

No boiler.

The parts were mounted on a tube, and run off an electric motor, for display purposes.

It might of course be freelance.

The flywheel is a bit out of proportion for a traction-engine, being too wide and too small diameter for the rest of the engine, and would not normally have a rope-groove, so could have been intended for a very different engine.

Nevertheless, it would be good to see it in running condition, on air or steam.

I don't know the origins of the flywheel. It wasn't with the parts when I first saw them (about 60 years ago!)

The pulley wheel is genuine meccano.

Yes, it could be freelance. Maybe I'll need to find drawings of something close to it, and adapt as necessary.

It's odd in that it appears to have 2 sets of valve gear the one on top of the cylinder is disconnected. Might have been an improvement with the intent to give it a reversing valve gear.

Martin The one on top would be the regulator it it were a traction engine or a stationary engine.
