      Folks,

I have recently acquired an incomplete Myford Taper Turning Attachment for my Super 7:

      ab3.jpg

A few bits are missing – the gib strip, the connecting arm and the socket. but these should be relatively straightforward to make. I've found plenty of pictures of the complete unit on the web and some text only instructions (sadly, the link to the "how to use" on the Myford site leads nowhere). However, I would be grateful for the following information: What is the thickness of the connecting arm? and I would like to see a picture or sketch of the socket. I'm sure I can work something out but it would be nice to see what the official items are like.

      Thanks,

      Rod

How interesting. I have a TTA with my S7 and for some perverse reason I have two of those 'Triangular Casting with a Slot, a Hole and two Locating Dowels' doins.

It appears to have once been Myford green and is now sloshed over with grey paint.

          Just about visible is a # 73/1931

          ??

          Dave

I would insert pics. if I were on any other Forum but this one seems to have a crackpot arrangement which I don't intend to mess around with.  sad

BTW has anyone else noticed the date anomaly on the "Latest Forum Posts" Window?

dsc_0125-1.jpgdsc_0126-1.jpgHere are some pictures of what I think is the relevant part from my TTA. The casting is 7 ins long by a shade under 3 ins at its widest. The web is 14 mm 9/16 thick at the slot. If you need any further info pls ask.dsc_0127-1.jpg

And my apologies to all for the silly mistake over the date today – my calendar…

                      Aahh ?

Think I have seen one of these lurking somewhere, need to get a rope round my waist and a pocket full of breadcrumbs and go looking.

                        Simon,

Thank you very much. Just what I needed.

John, no need to risk the minotaur on my account, Dave D has kindly offered me his spare arm surprise

Thanks, all – it's good here isn't it smiley

Thanks to the generosity of Dave Daniels with the gift of an arm and and Dave and Simon for the dimensioned drawing and pics, I now have a working Taper Turning Attachment:

I made the gib strip from a piece of 3/32" gauge plate and the socket from a length of 1" mild steel.

                          mtt socket.jpg

                          mtt complete.jpg

I'm not really sure why they use a ball handle rather than a plain nut for the arm lock but I think I ought to have a go at one – I made a Quorn once so I should be able to remember how to do it.

                          Cheers,

                          Rod

Don't bother making one, I have one here …. dont know I'll send you one.

After all afternoon ferretting amongst all the Myford bits I still have a different sort of arrangement to connect from the guider wotsit to the cross-slide .. I'll e-mail you a pic. of the bits I have left over now I've got mine together like Simon's and yours ….

I have a similar unit left over from my Myford days. The main difference is that the taper adjustment is via a sine bar.

The sine bar aspect is 2 ball races. The adjustment end is set from a movable block so that it can initially be set to turn parallel.

This is it less the part that runs on the guide. The drive is via a pin into a hefty casting that isn't shown and runs on the guide.

Also a good illustration of why metal shouldn't be kept in the same cupboard as plastic bottles of hydrochloric and nitric acid. Maybe sulphuric too as that was removed and rebottled when I noticed that the bottles had gone rather rigid.

Thread resurrection 'cos the workshop gremlin who made off with Roderick's TTA connector bar has been round here and made off with mine!!sad I realise that it would be lightning strike odds for there to be another such 'spare', but If anyone could let me have the main layout and dimensions I would be most grateful. No great rush – it's definitely a circular 'tuit' jobwink

Just a little bump, in case anyone has the Myford TTA and would be so kind as to measure the main dimensions for me, please?
