Well at last third time lucky!
Finally managed to fit the rack feed, seems to be the thread on the body of the feed isn’t quite square to the face so a little shimming was needed (easy fix but took ages to achieve).
Very pleased with the result, drilling, reaming and especially tapping is now so much easier.

            Food for thought.

Rack feed is even more useful on the older ML7, Drummond and ML10, with the barrel thread on the outside, which is an actual pain with the thread protruding through the hand wheel getting in the way when in use.

I found a cheapo way to fit one to a Drummond, by using the steering rack from a Morris Marina salvaged from a garage waste skip (with permission).

The rack was turned down to fit the tailstock bore and the pinion box modified to allow fitting with the original handwheel locking plate. The buisiness end was bored MT1 with a slot for an extractor drift, as in a Morse reduction sleeeve. Total cost, my time.

Hi there, can you tell me more about the dial please, I just bought one from the new Myford (RGD) and I have mm on the barrel but 0-1-2 on the dial with each divided into 16 (must ne inches and 1/16s) It looks like your dial is in 40-50-60 thus in mm?

Where did you fit the shim, mine is rather tight?

              Thanks

                Hi Martin,

Mine doesn't have any markings on the barrel but the dial is in mm.

I had to fit the shim between the locking collar and the rear of the tailstock. What was happening was when the collar was tightened the body of the rackfeed was twisting slightly to the rear and causing the barrel to bind, the shim stopped this and left the barrel free to slide.
