      Hi

Got my new Genuine Myford quick change tool post with some Genuine Myford tool holders, my problem is there is movement on the guides when it does up therefore allowing the tool holder to be locked in slightly different positions altering my tool hight by about .5mm , i have tried all the holders and they are the same? it would apear the clamping plate that pulls the holder in is pulling in tight before it has properly lockated on the v guides alowing me to very slightly rock the holder on the v guides, has anyone else noticed this. hope this makes sence.

There are the British made ones and the cheaper ones. Make sure both the post and the holder are the British made ones. The quality between the two is not the same. A & R Precision Engineering now make the good ones and you can find them on eBay if you have to.

How can i tell if they are British made, the holders do have a W stamped in the back?

                Hi There

                Sounds like genuine Myford.

The W is an M upside down.

                However, I don't think the

                Myford blocks were ever marked.

                regards David

                  Greetings David,

I was always under the impression that the W was not an upside down M but stood for Weston Engineering who produced the original Myford toolposts and holders.

                  Gordon.

                      Hi There

I thought Chris Moore said they got the M upside down.

I could have been wrong though.

                      Regards David

The cam and hole that pulls the T head into the toolpost block can wear over time. It's easy to take apart and check. I doubt very much if they're ground incorrectly. If you know someone with a good toolpost, you can easily check if the holders are at fault.

Would apprecite drawing on experience and receive comments in respect of the design,

construction and usage of this QCTP: How does it compare in practice with those available

                            from RDG or HBM Tools.

Hi David, most of my tool holders are original Myford ones made by Western Engineering [[30+years old] I also have some clones and some from A & R Precision, A & R are 100 % but he clones have all had problems of one sort or another, mainly dimensional.

Too thick on the base, the T slot being incorrect and another point to look at is the thickness of the flange on the height adjusting screw is sometimes too thick thus it interferes with the lockup when the cam is rotated and pushes the block away from the location ways.

                              Hope this helps.

                              John

Sent it back to Myford and they agree it has been made wrong they think the hole that the locking cam goes into is in the wrong place. They are sending me another one out so we will see what the replacement is like?
