      @mick70

picked a myford ml6 capstan lathe yesterday with loads of collets.

just needs motor and slide as seen in pic 3 of my album.

was wondering if anyone else had one who could kindly measure it for me?

and need pic of it attached to arm please.

all turns freely and hardly any wear to.

      cheers.

Looks as if it is the LH version – or has the photo been reversed? On the other hand it may have been assembled back to front!!

What precisely is it you are looking for I do have one of these so can do some measuring but the motor I have is not connected to the lathe by anything more than the belt! or to put it another way the motor mount is independent of the lathe bed.

            .

The lettering & numbering on the casting reads correctly …

[although I suppose that could be a 'double-bluff', if the foundry got it wrong]

hi sorry i hadnt realised at time i took pic i had put back together back to front .

brought it home in pieces and just put it roughly together as in middle of sorting out space for it and didn't want to lose anything.

its the slide bit in this pic i got from lathes .co.uk that is missing, if you could also let me know what size bolts are that fit it to bed are as well it would be much aprreciated.

              thanks.

I had not been able to read the lettering on the casting until I had downloaded it and enlarged it.

It has been assembled back to front. The view shown is from the rear of the bed.

The cut off slide needs to be dismantled and rebuilt from the other side so that the operating handle is on the headstock side of the slide.

The handle for the capstan should be inserted from the other side. The bracket for the end of the capstan lever mounts on a strip of T slot mounted on the rear of the lathe as in the other picture. There are holes visible in the casting which are probably those for fixing the T slot strip. The measurements required can be obtained from the machine itself. It should all be clear with a careful study of the photo's on the Lathes site.

All threads will be BSF or BSW unless any changes have been made – as I found out with mine.

That does not like like an ML6. It may be an earlier version but the ones I have seen are based on an ML7 with Trileva headstock.

                      ML 6.5 or whatever

It's a chunky bit of kit

it is one of early ones and only a few were made.

or so i was told where i got it from and they claim to have got info from tony at lathes.co.uk as they sent him pics as no-one knew what it was.

Is it possible that it was never fitted with a cross slide? Fitted with a turret for further operations on items it would not have needed a cross slide.
