A co worker has a Myford lathe and accessories he wants to sell, in the Toronto Canada area.

The only ID he has for the machine is a mark on the base VL159910. Can the Myford exerts here identify the machine model and year from this mark? The gentleman was the original owner of the machine but through advancing years and onset of memory loss does not have the purchase paperwork, manual, or memory of the model. My hunch is that it was bought in late 1960's early 1970's.

We will also need to establish approximate value of the machine once it is identified. It is in very good condition, it has been in the living space of the house since bought new, and has been used to make a few bushings and turned parts for antique engine restoration. Not more than 40 hr total use since new, and literally no wear. He will not ship the machine, buyer collection only. He can not help lift the machine up the stairs.

      Any help with ID appreciated.

V159910 would be an ML10 or Speed10 from 1985-1988 according to the Myford Website. https://www.myford.co.uk/acatalog/Serial_Numbers.html

          Is that the number?

A photo will answer the question quickly.

Sorry guys hopefully a pic is now attached – not sure why it didn't attach earlier.

VL159910 is the number on the lathe.

Hope this helps confirm the ID.myford-1.jpg

Myford ML10, looks like the long bed model in great condition.

Thank you very much Martin, Nick, and Neil!

Any ideas on value? (more people that respond, the better – would like a wide range of opinions, as I do not have experience with prices on Myfords, but have been involved with the sale of many other brands and types of machines.)

Don't know how relevant UK prices would be on this side of the pond Jeff. Myford prices have generally been a bit higher here – or were – they seem to have moderated a bit lately and there have been some quite good deals around on Kijiji.

Come to think of it, the comparison (UK/CAN) might be reasonably valid at that, given the current exchange rate.

Thanks Bandersnatch. May thought was that many more Myfords are bought and sold in the UK than in Toronto area, so accurate valuation across multiple sales might be possible from UK based forum members. I have been watching Kijiji sales here in Ontario but the prices are pretty erratic. As usual for machinery here some people want a fortune for an everyday machine in bad shape where others are asking what I would consider more reasonable prices for good machines. In our local paper there was an ad a year or so ago for a visibly badly worn Super 7 asking $31,000 !

I would of thought a nice ML10 long bed c/w 3 jaw chuck, tail stock chuck, fixed steady & face plate ( cant see what is in the blue box sat on the bed ) should be around £1400 – £1500. As an example they have a nice Myford Speed 10 with just a 3 jaw chuck for £1575 + Vat ( £1890 ) @ Home & Workshop Machinery.

You appear to have shown a nice lathe with accessories and the price realised will be for that.

The steadies are quite rare and go for silly money, so you might realise about the same for the lathe with just the accessories but without the steady which would go for a lot of money on its own.

                          Just an observation.

Thanks Martin and Nick. Just FYI The blue box in the pic contains a 4 jaw chuck, which I don't think was ever used. Still has anti-corrosion preservative oil on it! Good to know about the steady's value Nick.

A lot of ML10 fix steadies can go for around £230 but there is also one on Ebay for £160 at the moment. A new 4 jaw chuck will also push the price higher.

Thanks again Martin. Hopefully we can get a good price for my friend's lathe and accessories. Ad will post later in the week I expect, for anyone on the forum / reading the ads looking for a nice Myford lathe near Toronto Ontario Canada.

Here's one price in S.Ontario Jeff. (It doesn't seem to be yours).

Thanks Bandersnatch! I did see that one. Is it not the one I was asking about for my co-worker. The one in your info is at a dealer in Hamilton, he has several machines for sale. I have had attempted dealings with this firm in the past (without a successful transaction).

The lathe in your info looks to be in decent condition in the photos. Doesn't say if motor or any accessories are included. If they threw in the GHT pillar tool in the background it would be a good deal at $1000.00.
