Guess what arrived by Fedex yesterday?

Yup, the Aa Multifix set arrived from Create. A week after ordering, and seemingly without customs charges (and clearance charge). So bit of a result so far.

I supplemented the set with one further standard holder, AaD, and a round-tool holder AaJ. The intention is probably to bore the AaJ from 15mm to a more useful 16mm. And the only immediate reaction to the standard holders is that they are 12mm, and I do mean 12mm – so those 1/2" HSS bits will have to make a trip to the grinding wheel if they are going to be used.

What I do have to do is modify the loose top collar of the toolpost to fit the toolpost bolt. The collar has a bore of 10mm, and the bolt is 7/16". In the first instance I'll just turn a replacement in MS, which will be good practice and then allow me to use the new toolpost to modify its own component.

      Will report back…..

      Cheers, Colin

I see you've also got the same welding table as me.

I recently made a pillar for my Multifix but this is not for everyone. It has a register that fits into the bore at the bottom of the toolpost which is then held it down with an M16 bolt. This approach improves the rigidity by removing the topslide but is only useful if you don't need to cut at an angle.

I just drilled my top collar out with a 16.5mm drill. The hole size is not critical, as the bolt only holds the toolpost down. The actual location is done at the bottom of the toolpost, either by simple friction or by means of a locating feature like my register.

I have recently bought a VM210 mini lathe, 210 mm swing. Looking to buy a QCTP would the multifix system be a better option than a wedge type?
