A bit of a Drag but eventually decided on the type of piston ring I will use instead of Dykes type so a picture of proposed setup.
Have ordered a set of 84mm diameter steel rings for 4 Honda SUV pistons think the top rings will be OK in the steam machine ductile iron piston.
This way of pressurising the ring might not be suitable for a normal petrol engine that does high mileage as carbon might block the vertical ports I should think a high rate of wear is inevitable.
Was going to make my own Dykes rings but weighing up material costs and heat treatment etc. have given it a miss.
Has any member had deaings with these vertical port presssurised rings have feelings there more to do with drag cars.

Those who enjoy reading in their local 'free reading library' it starts on page 90.
Very interesting has given me ideas.
More bits came today Fleabay at times can be a pain but if fortunate there are bargains to be had at reasonable prices.
Just had some billets delivered for my cylinder head I bought from them and some extra ones in case of cockups.
What have I let myself in for full size is a bit different to model making.
Next material bit required is cylinder barrel then all engine big lumps acquired.
At end of the day the brain is kept active shame body is knackered pity you cant put grease nipples on your joints.
The way medical science is moving there might be time for them I know the full knee joint I had changed my life for the better (bike accident years ago).
Few pictures of my motorcycle. Built from scratch in my sisterscellar. It's been quite competitive so far, winning the 2016 championship and 2nd this year too.

Built ourselves a drag bike in the mid 90's based on one off Puma c/cases and a360 degree Nourish crank with PAC rods and a Weslake c/head. 1060cc OHV pushrod 8V twin, called RLT – Rather Large Triumph. Bob Brookes (you may of heard of him – is he still about?) built the rolling chassis and engine plates etc and supplied the 2 speed box.
I do know Bob very well, drag bike racing is too small of a world not to know Bob or Pete Davies. I would love to see pics of your bike if you can find them. It was Bob that showed me how to Bronze weld before i built that frame.
He's just retired from racing (and work!) and his bike is up for sale…here it is. It's entirely built in his workshop on manual machines – cylinder head, frame, bodywork, the lot. It's 1700cc, supercharged and running on methanol.
Mine is 1500cc based on a 1982 suzuki GSX, with bigger valves and cams, billet auto gearbox, slider type clutch, and with nitrous oxide as the power adder.
It makes 400hp at the rear wheel, does 0-60 in less than one second, 155mph in 4.4seconds and the quarter mile in 7.1 seconds at 186mph.
He was (is) a very talented man in a workshop. Far more talented than me on a milling machine… Did some incredible machining.
Do give him my regards when you see him next. I moved here to Thailand in 03 after selling up, and finally sold the drag bike around 07, for less than the engine was worth. Should have kept the motor and sold a bare rolling chassis… Say Mike from PSP says hello.
I'll try and find some pics of the RLT,
regards,
Mike.
