I'm pleasantly surprised about the number of "little jobs" I find for the 3D printer to do. The start/run capacitor on the table drive for my mill was retained by a built-in M8 threaded lug which was fastened to a bracket. Somehow I have managed to break the lug off.

It took (literally) 10 minutes to draw up a cup in Fusion 360. The thread could have been integral with the cup but would have needed some elaborate support for printing so I elected to make the screw separate.

The capacitor is retained by a zip tie which tightens the cup around the case. I should have printed a couple of pegs and holes to stop the threaded disc from rotating but it works OK

      All better now smiley

Nice, but why not print the cup in one piece, thread up?

My thought (right or wrong) was that the support necessary might compromise the close fit that I wanted on the capacitor.

When is the book coming out?

              Nice fix Rod yes .

One good thing about diong it the way you did is you can change dimensions for each part separately and if this one breaks at the thread you only have to print that part not the whole lot .

Actually, that's exactly what happened. The first screw was printed at 60% infill and sheared off as I tightened the nut. The current screw is 100% infil. I have to confess that I hadn't foreseen that advantage during the design stage thinking

Model engineering at its finest ! If the first one doesn't work make another and maybe a couple more after that !

Just like Edison and the light bulb, seem to remember he made hundreds, if not thousands before he got it right.

I wonder how many square wheels were made before they worked out that round ones roll better !

Not long really. Once the corners had worn off wink 2
