Model Super X1L Mill

Hi, I need a small milling machine for light work, as I have a very limited budget I was thinking of getting a Model Super X1L Mill from Arc Euro Trade, has anybody got any experience of this machine and could give me some advice.

I bought a Super X1L from Arc over a year ago and although it is a small mill I can honestly say that I have had no problems with it. I also started with a limited budget as I am a beginner at model engioneering (although in my 60’s  –  a late starter)!

I am having a go at building a 31/2 ‘Greene King’ at the moment and so far it has done everything I have asked of it, so If you are only intending to use it for light work then I would think it would suit you just fine. I have no complaints!

                Thanks for the reply, it sounds as if that is the one then, did you buy it prepared  or prepare it yourself which is what I’m going to do.

I’m a bit of a late starter myself , I am in my 70’s.

I prepared it myself which was really straightforward. It mainly involved the removal of the x & y tables cleaning same and then removing all the packing and transit grease on the machine,which is quite heavy stuff, and then setting up the tables again. If you would like to let me know your e-mail adress I can send you some photo’s of it ‘in action’ so to speak.

I have owned an X!L mill for several years. It is fairly robust and rugged. However, you must remember that it is only a small mill with a 150 watt motor. You cannot make massive cuts in steel but what you cannot achieve in one pass can always be achieved with multiple passes. It has proved reliable although I suggest any new owner invests in a stock of replacement fuses since these do blow if you attampt a heavy cut.

At the moment I am working on a motorised drive for the table.
