Model car clutch pads – where ?

Needing source of Stoneder clutch pads or similar

I'd like to get hold of some Stoneder centrifugal clutch pads, or similar product, to fit inside a 52mm drum or thereabouts. A couple of suppliers I've tried list them, but out of stock. Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

Dimensions are not carved in stone, early design days so can be flexible.

If you can't source any, would there be enough material in a car disk brake pad to machine some? Of course you would need to wear appropriate ppe. Another possible option may be to machine from a hard wood like oak, although tey probably wouldn't last long.

there are specialist clutch n brake material suppliers……..

I often have to resort to these people for help with antique machines……

ALSO dont forget tractors, industrial machines n cranes use block friction pads in the jib….

just google what u want but don't name the product……or friction material suppliers……

Thanks AlanW and clogs for your suggestions. The thing is, I'm not just after some friction pad material, but Stoneder or similar centrifugal clutch parts which comprise a metal shoe with pivot hole, and friction material on the outside face. These would lend themselves perfectly to my intended used as brake shoes in wheel hubs of a large RC model aircraft . If I can find a supplier it will save a lot of fabrication effort. I haven't given up, I know they are out there,

Hi Ken,

Hotpoint top loading washing machines used a metal backed centrifugal clutch as you described and later went on to use plastic ones which didn't require the mazak metal backing. A pair were contained in a cast iron cup about four inches in diameter.

Maybe the centrifugal clutch shoes from a 1/5 scale Baja buggy would do the job ? you should be able to get them via ebay or a local rc car / hobby store .

i think the shoes from a line trimmer would be a bit big as would be the shoes from a mini dirt monkey bike but you could also check them out – once again ebay is where i would start as some of the sellers do have stores that sell to the public if you don’t like buying through ebay .

Search on e-bay for "FG clutch". You can find the clutch bell (brake drum) and the shoes all for 52mm diameter.

My RC helis had the clutch bell lined to be gripped by a spinning shoe. Zenoah small engines have sprung clutch shoes with friction material attached to the shoe: zenoah small engines
