Just put new drive belts on my ML10 and a general service. I am totally stuck on an "how to deal with it" problem. There is a lubrication nipple on the mandrel triple pulley. It is situated on the boss of triple pulley and on the largest pulley wheel side.
Now the instructions say "oil this nipple", so I get out my non leaking oil gun and there is no chance that it will go on the nipple, the nose diameter of the gun way too big . Now the nipple is a straight one, maybe I can replace it with an angled version. I have tried everything to unscrew this nipple and it won't budge, because all the tools are too large to get at the hex section of the nipple.
I have tried mini spanners both normal and ringed, slim small sockets, nut spinners, tubular spanners and pliers. Nothing will get near to the hex portion of the nipple. I don't even know what the size is between flats, as I cant get a caliper in to measure it.
I have spent the best part of 3 hours trying to remove the nipple and it has me beaten. I cannot be the first person to have the problem of oiling this nipple. so how do others manage this feat?
I suspect the answer lies in having an oil gun that can reach the nipple. It must have a small diameter business end. So does anyone know how to do this simple job, without removing the lathe mandrel and dismantling it, to get at the pesky nipple!
Andrew.
