Still learning the ins and outs of the lathe. I have made a lot of progress on using the machine.

When it comes to the threadcutting on the myford ml10 machine, can imperial threads be cut? Or is it only setup to cut metric threads?

          Hi Jeremy,

I assume you have the manual for the ML10; there is a table of the pitches you can cut. With the right changewheels you should be able to cut most of the imperial threads a model engineer would need.

You need a 40 tooth, a 63 tooth and an 80 tooth change wheel and then you can cut 8 to 80 tpi.

Page 12 in the handbook explains.

That’s great to hear. I’m still learning all of the basics. I bought a book which was recommended to me, and it has been a tremendous help “The Amateur’s Lathe”.

Sparey's book is a great help for all lathe work.

Tubal Cain's "Model Engineer's handbook" is another very useful reference book, with lots of data on threads , toll grinding, gearing and so on.

Much of the stuff from that time is Myford 7 Series based, but the principles are sound.
