I'm trying to get a signal from the above VFD to tell my ELS when the main spindle is running. According to the manual (not the easiest read) I should be able to use RUN and SE, RUN should go low when the output from the VFD is more than some very low frequency. As I want the opposite, I made a transistor inverter to using RUN/SE to ground the base. Worked fime on the bench, but not when connected to the VFD. More probing showed with DVM set to diode test across RUN?SE, LOW is actually 1.7V, so I altered my iverter as shown, still doesn't quite work (it's better). Now find that voltage across RUN/SE has gone up, so transistor still doesn't quite switch off.

      Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? R1=R3 = 470R, R2 = 1K2

Just tried it on FU/SE, much the same

I think I'm in danger of answering my own question, I've got the Control Logic Jumper on SOURCE, should it be on sink?

Hello Duncan, I have had a look at the manual, the RUN terminal is configurable by parameter 190, the factory default is 0 which gives an output when the drive is running. If you change it to 13 it will output on zero current detection, levels set by parameters 152 and 153 which should give you the output you require without an inverter (I think). It is described on page 150 of the manual I looked at.

The control logic jumper sets the inputs to source or sink. Hope this helps, Michael.

Just swapped SOURCE to SINK, nothing worked!, Swapped back and control buttons work again thanks the Lord

Michael, it's on factory defaults, at least I've never changed that bit

Duncan, alternatively if you are not using the alarm relay (a b c) you can change its function with parameter 192. The default setting is 99 = alarm output, if you set it to 0 it will also be a run output, it is a changeover contact so you will not need to invert the signal just connect as required. Michael

Thanks, will look at that tomorrow. If it works it will be excellent, but I'l have to delve into the mysteries of parameter setting, they dont make it easy do they.

Why do they have to make it so difficult? I've tried and failed to change parameter 192. My sequence of button pushing is as follows (my best interpretation of the manual)

press MODE until PR appears, then press SET

use UP SET DOWN SET UP UP display now shows 192

press SET display now shows 99

press down, display scrolls down to 0. All logical so far

press SET for 1.5 seconds and display shows flashing Err I'm now lost!

Fortunately pressing MODE gets me back to run, parameter 192 not changed. The manual is about as clear as mud, anyone know how to sort it

After walking the dog (good thinking time!) I re-read the manual and I think I've succeeded. In case anyone else is struggling, before changing the parameter you have to

                        press MODE to get OPnd

                        press UP/DOWN to get PU

then proceed as above, when finished

press MODE to get PU UP/DOWN to get OPnd

I now seem to have a contact on the alarm relay which operates as a RU indication. I've now been told I have to go shopping, so I'll confirm later that it works as advertised, but didn't want to waste people's time if I've triumphed
