Miss Britain III was a speedboat designed by Hubert Scott Paine and built by his company British Power Boats. Inspired by the success of the Supermarine S6B in the 1931 Schneider Trophy, he had tried to obtain a Rolls Royce type R engine to power a boat to challenge the American speedboat racer, Gar Wood for the Harmsworth Trophy. Wood's massive speedboat America X had four engines and nearly 8,000 horsepower.

        This is my version!

Those of a sensitive disposition should turn down the volume BEFORE playing the video.

Very nice. What you need now is a sound chip, amplifier and speaker, then you can make it sound like a Merlin.

Well corporate IT don't like something about that video server. Will have to try at home. Don't care about the boat but now I want to hear what the 'musak' is like. cool

Like it! the real one is in the foyer of the Maritime museum in London. Having a Napier engine put it on my must see list on a trip to 'T smoke a couple of years ago.

I just get a blank area where, I suppose, the video should appear. I'm using Firefox under Win10 x64.

The thing that surprised me when I saw it was, just how spindly the crankshaft was.

Nevertheless, the Lion saved many lives powering WW2 Air Sea Rescue launches.

Great British engineering that is no more, sadly.

I believe tat the one in the photo is serviceable. Which boat was it in in 1930.

Howard I expect they could make the crankshaft more "flimsy" owing to the fact that it is fairly short with the cylinders in three banks of four.

I had a Win10 upgrade and reboot last night, and upgraded Firefox to the latest level (45.0) and still get a blank area instead of a video.

Video is on the Google cloud, apparently schools and colleges use it to host videos because it allows them to avoid You Tube (even though Google own You Tube!).
