Wow it certainly looks the one to me.

The only issue I have is the tool post.

The screw thread that allows you to move it forward and backward will only go 1 way.

      And that's forward??

If I go to unwind the thread there is no resistance to move the whole unit, it just winds the thread out.

The sideways bar thread works ok though.

With only a few washers left over I cannot see anything that I have done to have cause this in re assembly.

      Regards

      Peter

You have a short amount of time to amend your post by clicking on the "edit post" in the green header bar. Not sure what the timing is but you have a few minutes after that its set in stone I believe.

        regards

Hi, you usually get about half an hour to edit a post and you can edit it many times in that half hour.

        Regards Nick.

May need a bit clearer description of the problem. However I suspect that where the thread goes through the end plate next to the handle, on the inside of that plate you should have put the spare washer and a split pin, roll pin, or screw. is there a hole there?

It seems likely that the lathe originally had a cast headstock with half split bearing caps. These often get broken so the owner had to make a substitute.

                Hi Bayzle

                You are of course correct.

It does have a cast headstock or wealded 5mm thick washer I took the thing apart and put it back correctly and boom it works .

I did notice that there once was a very small pin that went through the brass handle to fit over the shaft.

This was impossible to match up being only 1mm max and someone in the past had drilled out a M6 hole and fitted a grub screw.

This grub screw is not really up to the job so I might go M6 and put a pin in.

                Thanks again

                Regards

                Peter

I even learnt how to use Google for words I did not know the meaning of!

Esoteric – definition of esoteric by The Free Dictionary

                    http://www.thefreedictionary.com/esoteric

                    It is a great Forum.

We won't ask which bit of the model maker it fitted…

It fitted the end of shaft.

It's only a small wheel. but a great back up if needed.

But you already knew that Neil lol.
