This little project was completed for work, when someone made me a bet that I couldn't make a running engine using only a milling machine.

Many of the apprentices made this successfully and goes to prove you don't always need a lathe to do the round bits.

Please have a look at the album and when I get a couple I'll write up the build log.

      Regards

Many older plans were provided for lathe-only users – as mills were not so common.

I use my mills for more operations than my lathe.

It’s a bit like woodwork where the router can be substituted for a saw, planer, drill – and likely more power tools.

After all, a lathe can have a milling attachment fitted, just as a mill can be fitted with a rotary table…

Did that particular project raise any special operations to make it with mill only?

Not really, it was meant to show the apprentices methods of using different tools and accessories on the mill to get the job done.

In our particular 'Training sceanario' we did't have access to a lathe
