      Hello,

I would be interested to hear from any model engineers who are familiar in scratch building metal model automobiles. I am currently building the MG Magnette from the drawings by G. H. Deason (http://www.myhobbystore.co.uk/product/17247/mg-magnette-mm164).

It seems there are not many model engineers who scratch build model automobiles.

      Many thanks for looking.

I have always wondered what the quality of those drawing is like as they appear so cheap when compared to the locomotive drawings.  Any chance of posting some pictures of progress?

            Hello Rob,

            Thanks for the post.

I have only just received the drawings, so the build is at a very early stage. I will be pleased to post pictures as the chassis evolves.

I am quite pleased with the detail of the drawings. Construction notes would be helpful though. It looks to be a 1″ scale – an attractive automobile, made principally from dural, steel, and brass.

I am thinking through at the moment the right commercially built engine to house and use in the engine bay (1 – 3.5 cc). It must be relatively slow running. Suggestions will be welcome.

            Kind regards,

            Mark

              Mark,
you were asking about ‘construction notes’.  Are you aware that the construction of a 1:12 scale 1946 MG TC was written up by Stephen Atkinson and covered in some detail in Model Engineer?

                Hello Phil,

                Many thanks for the information.

I will look into this – construction notes will be most helpful.

I am surprised that not more model engineers venture into building an automobile in between building a live-steam locomotive or traction engine.

                Best wishes,

                Mark
