      Hi There
The subscription offer for the next Model Engineer is Model Engineering, A Foundation Course by Peter Wright.
Ideal for beginners, the offer will start in about a fortnight.
      regards David

A bit I should have added earlier about safety for newcomers, I had this hammered into me years ago. Hang the chuck-key in a prominent position, do not start the machine unless you can see the key. Always turn the chuck by hand before switching on. NB this is always.

An excellent piece of advice Gordon. If I may I would also add that you should never ever have a cleaning rag anywhere near the lathe – it can wrap round the revolving chuck in a flash and drag your hand in with it.

I can recommend the guys at York Club. Yes there’s a lot of train talk but , if you ask, they really try and help! And there’s a real fountain of knowledge to drink from.

It’s definately true though that if you ask 4 engineers for an opinion on something you’ll get 6 answers ( at least) , most of which will contradict each other on fundamental point!

In any organisation not just me clubs there are those that do a job and those that criticise it, that’s life. Illigitimi non carborundum ( apologies to anyone who can do latin! )

Well more generally I can thoroughly recommend the people at the Yeovil club.

People are very welcoming, members are making bits for each other, and you can ring for advice and assistance.

I’m sure it depend on the club officers. Its a pity to hear of clubs which are cliques, but there is at least one which is not.
