Just wanted to say what a blummin' cracking little issue MEW 192 is

Lots of practical stuff like the thread dial indicator, larger milling table, FC3 adapter and the Cowell's restoration

And for a "CNC doesn't float my boat" person like me what did grab my attention was RepRap which I had only found the website for the day before. Now that is something CAD/CAM related that I can see myself doing. And you can build it yourself !! And I guess when we get to article about the software to drive it that will be open source which will massage my Linux habit

Hell – I'm even warming to the Stepperhead series and thinking whether I want to build one

This is why we don't need a "build a model" series when we've got cracking tooling like this to make

      My two penneth worth

      A very 'appy John

          Hi John

          Thanks for that.

It is nice to know we are doing something right.

          regards david

Well I think you need to know when you put out something that good (to me anyway)

I've posted in the past about not wanting too many CNC articles (or none probably in some of my posts) but the RepRap didn't feel like CNC. I guess because now I've got my hands on a Raspberry Pi and am back hacking and coding again I'm receptive to similar minded stuff. And I really like the idea of RepRap. A machine that replicates itself – how cool! You build it then you can make another for a friend. Bit like Linux where you can download the OS, learn how to use it, then copy it and pass it on to somebody else

Anyway now down to some serious reading wink

              Hi John

How about a short article on the Rasberry Pi?

              regards david

I have one little peeve about the ER32 collet chuck article.

On page 45 he points out that a standard collet nut can be bought from ARC, even has the part number listed but then goes on to describe cutting the thread to suit a nut you can't buy ?

Add to this all the details are incorrect, he list the thread as 1 3/4" x 26 when the thread of this special nut is actually 44mm x 1mm pitch which is nothing like the stated sizes.

As an article with these unchecked details it's not fit for purpose. no

                    Hi John

He says you can get a collet closing nut from Arc Euro Trade but also says he used the nut from his spin indexer adaptor which is different which is why he cut a different thread.

So it is fit for purpose, just thread to suit your nut.

                    regards david

                      Yes David I read that but he's cutting a 1 3/4" x 26 tpi thread to fit a 44 x 1 nut. So not fit for purpose.

                        David,

The added problem is trying to explain all of this to people who phone us to buy a 26 tpi nut!, and thats where the fun begins.

Should I send you the bill for the time wasted and the potential returns due to mis-understandings ?

                        Ketan at ARC.

                          Hi Ketan

Upsell them to a spin indexer and make more money.

                          regards david
