Metrology software

Hi All,

I have an engineers microscope (OMT.. rebadged Zeiss Jena?) to which I have fitted a 50mp Chinese camera, a TFT screen and output to a mini PC (Win 11).

Can anyone recommend free or cheap measurement software?

Not sure about compatibility with your specific camera, but the free Amscope software [for Windows] is highly regarded.

What I found in searching is that if you look for ‘microscope measurement’ you tend to find things for counting cells (i.e. biological applications). You are wanting engineering/geometry applications, so you might have to be creative with your search terms.

I have the Insize usb camera and software. It came with a calibration card. If you change the the magnification on the one I have, then the calibration is no longer correct. Their software is free as far as I know. A lot use a generic imaging chip, but as for the specific software to make it work , I am not sure.

I have downloaded the software that looks to be a close to the spec of my camera and will try it out this weekend. My camera is a 200x  zoom but not sure of the chip MP.

The Amscope  software does not recognize my Insize USB Camera. Model ISM 200 . It is a 2MP camera.  The ISM Pro is no longer freely available it seems. It is now an old product and has been superceded with a product that has the camera and a screen in a stand alone unit.

Worth a try I suppose. Mine needs a laptop or pc ti make it work. Thd newer systems have a better scope and the large screen format makes them nicer to use.

What I do like about the one I have is I can take it to the lathe and look at the detail like a circlip groove or the surface finish of a part.

Edit: __ alternatively, if the camera is UVC there will be dozens of applications that can handle it.

‘Reading between the lines’ it looks very much like there was a Windoze driver required for your camera, which may have gone the way of many others in the relentless march of ‘upgrades’

Unfortunately, I don’t have the skills to help 🙁

… Except to suggest that you find a Win7 PC to try it on.

Note: [probably stating the obvious] … UVC, as mentioned yesterday, is Universal Video Class … and it means that a camera needs no dedicated driver.
