Hi does anyone remember the name of a uk metal supplier mentioned on the forum earlier this year please? I looked them up and they were a fraction of the price of model engineering suppliers if you bought by the metre, now I can't find them again. Thanks

Don't know if this was the name mentioned, but M-Machine metals have always been a very good source for me:

          M-Machine-metals.co.uk

They are in Darlington but will post.

You need to go from site to site on the net and see who is the most reasonable. Recently wanted some one inch square mild steel, nothing special, to make a special tool for dismantling a stationary engine, some sites wanted £45 plus for a metre of 1 inch square bar, found one site that supplied me 1/2 a metre for £8.50 plus carriage.

                It;s often worth cross-checking with ebay, F'instance 25mm square bar EN1A x 500mm £10.79 inc post.

Someone mentioned Rapidmetals recently.. I'm waiting for their new website to open to check pricing..

M Machne is my usual go-to for a mixed order and combined postage and simplicity

                  Was it Ringwood that I mentioned – 13" of 12mm EN1a for £4.25 or 3 x 1m for £14

John, you also have a PM from the other day.

Thank you for the replies but I don't think it was either of those. I think this was a traction engine place.

Found it! Live Steam Models ltd. Some of the steel prices are very good/ metre.
