      John

Why are you posting 3 Meg high res images?

I have asked previously for some guidance from this site on image file size but, even being very generous, I doubt that folk have monitors capable of showing any difference in a file of say 500K and one of 3 Meg. In fact a file of 200 – 300K is probably quite sufficient.

I know the site software limits the size but there is no point in squirting un- necessarily big files down the line is there.

Mark Web Tech – perhaps you could comment.

Sorry, you've had a bit of a rough run so far, but it is the weekend soon!

      Cheers

Mark, any comment on the fact that the editor seems to hijack the right mouse click preventing use of external (browser) spelling checkers? It does this whether or not SCAYT is enabled.

            Hi Norman

Unless you click on an image the image is a small size. If however you click it then it will go and get the larger image. So it is a matter of choice. Bandwidth is not used unless you ask to see more detail.

            Cheers

John that looked like it worked using the YouTube embed method. Were you OK with that process?

Much better Mark it allows you to click and see the images on the site

Can someone see if the image can be downloaded from mediafire please

                  Cheers

John I Think the 515 looks best, the image will get scaled to 350px anyway by the style sheets on the website.

If I click the image it opens mediafire in another window and shows the image the same size as in your post. If I then click download it gives an image that fills the screen height wise but is still a small 75k file size.

Hi everyone I've just added a new icon to let you add an image in from your Albums, which should work in the same way as the old editor worked. Hopefully it'll help.

You must have downloaded the CAD screenshots they are quite small any way.

If you had downloaded one of the photos and you had selected large you would have got about a 3mb file.

Mediafire actually allows you to download large medium or small size images.

                            Cheers

Ketan I'm not sure what the problem is here.

                                Sorry Mark,

There is no problem with reference to ads. After reading John Mc's comment, I got the wrong idea that something had changed for the ads column, but after checking on "waybackmachine", I note that with reference to ads, it is still the same. Sorry for the confusion in this respect.

                                Thanks, Ketan.

It sounds like your computer settings.

We do get adverts over the threads but usually they stay like that until we fix the long link that caused it.

You seem to be the only person with intermitent problems.

                                      Oh this is getting ridiculous!!

I just about completed a long posting in another thread, I only needed to add a Web Link. Clicked on the "Link" button, only to be presented with the "white screen" and could do nothing but press the browser back button, losing everything I typed angry

To say I am unimpressed is an understatement!

                                      P.S.

SCAYT (what an intuitive name for a spell checker) defaults to US spelling. One would have expected a UK based web site to default to British spelling. There really seems to be no rational reason for having disabled the fully functional Firefox spell checker that is allowed by every other web site.

                                          Poor Maurice!

                                          David (DC1)

Your reply reads as if its only Maurice that is seeing problems. Just because other users post details of every anomoly they see (and then don't see) does not mean that Maurice is the only one with intermitent problems.

The very size of the response to this thread should give you and 'M' some idea of the extent of trouble the forum participants are going through. Yes, I know we are here as 'guests' and we can always switch the computer off if we want to but I think now that MEW has gone to the trouble and expense of setting up the forum it should at least think of the users.

The next thing I want to say is not easy to put into words and I do not want to cause offence, but, earlier we learnt that MEW does have a website manager (I'm not sure of the correct terminology and I dont want to lose what I'm typing now by searching), surely Mark should be the one communicating analysis and advice rather than yourself?

Personally I would rather be engineering than typing this, but this whole affair has now become a bit of a saga and I'm addicted.

I hope this is just a pure coincidence.

When I pressed return posting my previous message (2 minutes ago) the screen refreshed but with adverts right down the middle of the screen! in front of the forum window which now has text wider than the screen so to read it I have to scroll from side to side.

This the first time ever that I (me) personally have seen adverts in front of the text. I've read about it here, but its never happened on my PC.

Things seem to be going downhill rapidly.

Hi, so far I think the spell checker is rubbish, and agree which Clive about the US English, and not being able to use the browser spell checker.

I can't seem to find how to turn the compatability view off, I'm using IE9 on Vista.

SCAYT (what an intuitive name for a spell checker) defaults to US spelling. One would have expected a UK based web site to default to British spelling. There really seems to be no rational reason for having disabled the fully functional Firefox spell checker that is allowed by every other web site.

Hi, I've just changed the default language of the spell checker to British, thanks for pointing it out.

                                                      Hello Mark Web Tech,

Curently, and things do change, I have adverts down the centre of the page and text that is wider than my screen. I am a model engineer not a computer fanatic, so browsers and firefoxes and Scayt spell checkers mean little to me. I have Widows XP and Windows Internet Explorer, Please do not even think about advising me to change these just to see this forum
